Anderson Farm & Ranch Skillet Chocolate Cake Recipe

The recipe this month is a top tier family favorite! This skillet chocolate cake is super simple to put together & melt in your mouth delicious! It's moist, it's chocolatey, it's got yummy, gooey frosting...what more could you ask for?! I'm willing to bet that this will quickly become a highly requested dessert at your home, like it has been in our home!

Cake

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 1/3 c. cocoa powder
  • 2 sticks butter (16 Tbsp.)
  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

  1. Start by mixing your flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda & salt in a stand mixer. Mix that together & set it aside.
  2. In a separate bowl mix the 2 eggs, 1/2 c. yogurt & vanilla. Mix until smooth. Add the yogurt mixture into the flour mixture & mix it just until it's mixed togher. Don't overmix.
  3. In a pot on the stove, melt the butter & add the water & cocoa. Bring mixture to a simmer.
  4. Remove the butter/cocoa mix from the stove. Add the hot cocoa mixture to the stand mixer while the stand mixer is stirring on low speed.
  5. Once it is evenly mixed (don't overmix), remove bowl from stand mixer &, with a spatula, make sure everything from the bottom is well incorporated.
  6. Pour batter into a 12" skillet & bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. I check mine at 30, I like to leave mine slightly moist in the middle, so a fork comes out mostly clean. This gives it a gooey texture. If you prefer yours fully baked, just keep baking until a fork comes out fully clean.

Frosting

While the cake is baking, make the frosting.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter (8 Tbsp.)
  • 8 Tbsp. milk
  • 1/3 c. cocoa
  • 4 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

  1. On the stovetop melt the butter & then add the rest of the ingredients. Stir until melted & smooth.

Once the cake is out of the oven, pour the frosting on top while still warm. Spoon it out into a bowl & enjoy! It is delicious with vanilla ice-cream!
