Justin McBride

“I can’t quit bull riding until I win a world title,” he vowed on more than one occasion. In 2005, Justin McBride wasn’t prepared to walk away with anything less than the World Championship buckle. He won the second event of the 2005 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) season and his hot streak never stopped. He tied the record for most BFTS event titles in a single season with six, and won the 90-point bonus for 2005 with six 90-point rides. PBR President and seven-time PRCA All-Around World Champion Ty Murray commented, ”He’s a guy who has come really close to winning a championship a number of times, and I’ve seen how it can ruin guys ‘cause they want it so badly. Justin learned from his mistakes, he made adjustments and that’s what it took. He showed it’s more than just physical ability – it’s the heart of a champion.”

Jody Newberry

Jody Newberry climbed on his first bull in a practice pen at age 15. He recalls, “I rode three out of four that day, so it went pretty well.” Newberry won his first bull riding buckle the same year and went on to succeed in the Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association before joining the PBR.

Standing 6'3” tall, Newberry is one of the tallest riders on tour. “I do not always have the best technique or form because of my height,” states Newberry. However, this Oklahoma native obviously is doing something right. He won the 2003 PBR World Finals event title, which gave him enough money to clinch Rookie of the Year honors as well.

Ross Coleman

Ross Coleman rode his first calf at age 7 – the same year he won his first buckle. He continued the natural transition from steers to junior bulls. By high school, Coleman wasn't just a stand out in bull riding. He competed in every event in rodeo. It was those skills that earned him the National High School Rodeo Association All-Around Cowboy title in 1997. Coleman continued his winning ways on UNLV's rodeo team, earning the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association All-Around Cowboy title in 1998 before turning professional in the PBR.

Wiley Petersen

At the encouragement of his grandfather, Wiley Petersen climbed on his first steer at age 10. “My Grandpa rode bulls, and he taught me how to ride. He was my role model growing up – he's honest, hard working, and a good person. “Petersen showed great success at riding from the start – winning his first buckle the same year. He gradually progressed to junior bulls and competed in high school and amateur rodeos thoughout his teens. Petersen caught the eye of the rodeo coach at Idaho State University in Pocatello and received a scholarship. He competed in college rodeos for two years before he joined the PBR.

LJ Jenkins

Since winning his first championship on a calf at the age of 8, L.J. Jenkins has been undaunted by the competition. “I grew up near PBR bull riders Matt Bohon and Luke Snyder. I looked up to them, but they didn't pay attention to me. My brother was their age, and they just thought of me as the 'younger brother.'”

However, it didn't take long for fellow bull riders take notice of this New Mexico cowboy when he burst on the PBR scene on the day he turned 18. “I bought my permit on my birthday and won first place at the PBR event in Gillette [Wyo.] that night. It was sweet 'cause all of the top guys were there. It helped boost my confidence.” Since then the high school senior had done nothing but show his winning style.
