Sunday afternoon outside Denver was the location for the second winner circle event of the weekend involving Rocky Brands. Doug Kalitta, driving for Rocky, clenched his first win of the season. “When I saw the win light come on down there it was real special, a great relief,” said Kalitta. The 8,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Kalitta Air Top Fuel dragster won its first Top Fuel title trophy of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. The Rocky TrailBlades that Team Kalitta wears received a beating after all the jumping up and down that was taking place at the starting line after the win light lit up. This is really going to help motivate our team and give us the confidence that we can run with these guys going into the Countdown, and hopefully we can prove it.” On hand to witness the runs over the weekend were Rocky boot buyers who were awarded tickets at Army Surplus For Less and Western Trading Co. Local rep, Jason Russo, hosted 5 account buyers of these accounts as well as the winners. This was Russo’s first NHRA event and he has already received requests for next year. Russo claimed, “it went a long way in helping solidify relationships and future business.”
Kalitta is now in fourth place in NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel championship points, 360 points away from the lead. The win in Denver helps Kalitta and the Kalitta Air team build momentum going into the NHRA “playoffs”, the Countdown to 1, which begin at the world’s most prestigious drag racing event, the 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Sept. 1-6. Kalitta has already locked in a position in the Countdown to 1 with only one event remaining in the NHRA’s “regular season” which concludes in three weeks in Brainerd, Minn. Rocky will be the primary sponsor for the third and final time this season at Charlotte in September.
